I love the shading, especially on the wings.^^
-- Riddle time! Epic 1|Epic 2 *dA-ScholarsProject This is gorgeous Bali! *jaw drops* I mean... wow... the shading on the skin is just amazing.. I wish I could do that.. and the wings, they are just.. breathtaking. I can only hope to have your talent for this, someday.
As for the background, it's fine. Goes very nicely. Makes you focus on the character, and not on anything else. Good job. *adds to her faves* -- We're born. We live. We fuck. We make mini-versions of ourselves. We die. Rinse and Repeat. Vos Vestros Servate, mehos mihi linquite mores. "You keep to your own ways, and leave me to mine." ... you send me into the land of the giant inferiority complex. again.
Your wingwork is beautiful, the shading superb. I don't know how you manage those feathers without getting carpal tunnel. That said, you ask for critique, so here we go. Suggestive criticism follows. Your shading around the chest and the shadowed underside of him could use a little smoothing out. I don't know specifically what you're going for with the deep cut shadows around the abs and the muscle ridges along the hips, but a little thinner of a shadow there, or a more gradiated shadow might make that look a bit cleaner. Then again, that might be part of your original linework, so whatever works best. The pants could use a little more work... they've got a highlight which seems to imply leather or PVC or reflective synthetics, but there's not much else to give it a texture, The right leg is very niceley done, but the left knee and below are a little flat looking. One suggestion I might make.... there's a way to recolor your linework to match the surrounding area after you're finished with those region's colors. While your lines are awe inspiring, tinting them, especially on skin, to a tone that might better match his complexion, might make for a better effect. Not having gotten anywhere near this stage in my own digital coloration attempts, I can't say how this might change the shading, but If you feel like playing around with it, it might prove a fun distraction and an interesting variation. I do know how this process is done... I think... select lineart layer, select by color, click the nice rich black of your linework and then paint over that selection with the color for that region of the picture.... I think i still have a tutorial for that lying around. The metal wires and components look great, and his visible sock works rather well. the wings and shoulder attachment look a little dull, though, like plastic or painted metal. was this the effect you were going for? a few more highlights might bring out the gleam in these parts, or possibly just a little tweaking of the existing ones. still, very well done, especially for a first attempt.... still haven't even gotten near finished on mine.... -- The Technocracy does not understand the true power of the Ether. It is the Key ingredient to The Perfect Waffle. That's your first. And it's better than my entire photoshop portfolio!!! Those wings are lovely. I like the lighting effect on them. However, the skin tones seem to bother me, maybe it's too blurred or maybe the highlights are too vague in it. That needs some work done. Otherwise I think it's really well done. That green thing on his shoulder needs more shine if it's metal that is. Keep it up, I need to see more digital art from you.
-- I am open for commissions I have...no clue what you're talking about...so I think the tutorial would help if you can find it XD Someone else said the same thing about the shoulder plate, and here I thought I was overdoing the highlights on it...
-- Asexuals of the Mid-Atlantic I thought I was putting too much shine on his shoulder thingy...I didn't want to overdo it
